DAVE'S CORNER

A Time for Prayer!  Acts 4:23-31

Peter and John left the meeting of the Jewish leaders and went to their own group.  They told the group everything which the most important priests and the Jewish elders had said to them.  When they heard this, they prayed to God with one purpose, "Master, You are the One who made the land, the sea, the sky, and everything in the world.  Our ancestor, David, was Your servant.  With the help of the Holy Spirit he wrote these words:  'Why were the nations so mad?  Why did the people of the world plan things against God?  That is hopeless!  Why did the kings and the rulers of the earth, come together against the Lord God and against His Messiah?'  "These words came true when Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate, the nations of the world, and the Jewish people all 'came together' against Jesus here in Jerusalem.  Jesus is Your Holy servant, the one You made Messiah.  These people who 'came together' against Jesus made Your plan come true; it happened because of Your power and Your will.  And now, Lord, listen to what they are saying.  They are trying to make us afraid!  Lord, we are Your servants.  Help us to speak the things You want us to say without fear.  Show Your power; make sick people well, give proofs, and cause miracles to take place by the power of Jesus, Your Holy servant."  After the believers prayed, the place where they were meeting shook.  They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they began to speak God's message without fear.

 EVANGELISTIC MEETING!

Our Revival and Evangelistic meeting will be from Sunday morning, September 27 through Wednesday night, September 30.  Don Forrester will be our guest Evangelist.  He is a great man of God who loves the Lord and loves to speak for Him.  You will be blessed and inspired by the words the Holy Spirit gives to him to impart to us.  Mark your calendar now and plan on being here at every part of the meeting.  If you miss, you will miss out on God's blessing for you and you will be missed.

The meeting will begin Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. and will continue nightly at 7:00 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday.  We have different groups in charge of inviting people to attend each evening:  Youth - Sunday, Men - Monday, Women - Tuesday, and Adult Bible School classes - Wednesday.  Be in prayer for the meeting, Don, and the souls that need to be here to make life-changing decisions for Christ. There will be a 24-hour prayer vigil starting Saturday morning September 26, 9:00 A.M. and lasting through Sunday morning until 9:00 A.M.  We encourage everyone to take part in this leading up to our revival.

We need to have people let Kathy know if you would be willing to supply a meal at noon or a snack at night for Dave and Don. We will be having a congregational potluck carry-in dinner on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. before the final night of the meeting.

We need people to staff the Nursery and Toddlers rooms for the meeting.  Let Kathy know if you would like to do that.
Pray that the Lord of the harvest will send forth laborers into the harvest.  The harvest is ready.  Let us be inviting and praying starting now and during our meeting.

First Things First

Deuteronomy 6:1-9

"Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the LORD your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it, so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

As I watch Zoe speed ahead toward her 3rd birthday, I am constantly thinking of how I can best give her the opportunity to know God and develop her own faith. The most difficult challenge I have in bridging the gap with the next generation is answering this question, "How can I encourage them to make it "their own"? When searching the heart of the Lord about this, I found comfort and guidance in the words above. The first is "here are the commandments, that you might do them." Now we are not required to "perform" for God per se but we follow His commandments because we love and trust Him. As children of God, we are responsible to know and follow – to preserve our joy and to be in a heart relationship with Him. But we also do this "so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God to keep all His statutes..." The message here? You obey and love the Lord so that your sons and daughters SEE your faith – and know that the Lord is real and worthy of priority in your life. More important for children than cracking open a picture book of Bible stories is seeing their parents walking with the Lord. Church is a worthy and necessary influence in a young child's life – but it is not the first and most important one. Personally open every nook, hole, and cranny to the Lord, submit, obey, love, and let Christ be the cornerstone – your very breath. Parents are the first view children have to how God loves them and we cannot expect to convey the Lord's love effectively until we let Christ's love and light rule in our hearts. Now, forget the idea of being perfect but master the idea of being forgiven and available and trust God's grace to bridge the gap.

While your children see you living your faith, you have an open door to "teach them diligently" – and not just with bedtime prayers but everywhere they look. This passage of Scripture basically says "don't isolate God – let His commands be #1, let it be everywhere your children look. Submit and let His word rule in every aspect. Go CRAZY with it! Don't hold back!" That kind of passion only comes with there is a vital, thriving relationship with the Lord. If we only pass along the boundaries of the "law" of the Lord without the foundation of love, we have legalism which has no life in it. Love the Lord with all your heart – and because of that follow and teach what He commands...and then there will be life.

None of us will do this perfectly – AT ALL! But going forward in the same direction day after day (and asking forgiveness from our children when we fail them) will speak volumes. And it's never too late!

I'm along for the journey with you. Saved and living under grace,

Wendy Martinie, Youth Director

Nominations for Elders and Deacons begin.

Beginning on Sunday morning, September 20, ballots will be made available to the members of the congregation to nominate men for the work of Elder or Deacon.  A man can be nominated if he has been a member of Central Christian for six months or more.  You will turn your nomination ballot in to an elder.  The last Sunday for nominations will be Sunday, October 11.

The budget process also begins then for committees.  The budget request must be in to the finance committee by Sunday, October 11.

Our annual congregational meeting will be Sunday night, November 22, at 7:00 p.m.  We will have a congregational potluck carry-in dinner at 6:00 p.m.

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO

DAVID BEDENBAUGH FOR FIVE YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE.

On Saturday night, August 29 we will have a time to say thank you to David Bedenbaugh for his service here at Central.
We will have a carry-in dinner at 6:00 p.m.  with a program of thank you.  Then we will have a time of singing beginning around 7:00 p.m.

This will be a great time to come and say thank you to Dave and have a great time of fellowship.  Plan on being here.

The family of Travis Kelly acknowledges with deep appreciation your kind expression of sympathy.

To My Sisters in Christ,

I would personally like to thank all of the women of the church for the outstanding job you did for Dawn's bridal shower and all the showers in the past. I am truly blessed to be such a part of wonderful women whom God uses for His service.  The church surely has only of the best assets, the women of Central Christian.

May God bless each one of you for using your talents for His service and your love for His people. It doesn't hurt that you are such fine cooks either! YUM!

Love in Christ,

Brenda Capraro

BEGINNING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 THE OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED EVERY FRIDAY!

The church office will be open only Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. beginning September 1.  Everything needs to be in the church office at the first of the week each week so that everything is taken care of by closing of the office on Thursdays.  Thank you.

If you have someone in the nursery or toddlers rooms on Sunday mornings, please check to see if you have inadvertently taken a beeper home. We are missing #2 & #11. Since #5 is broken, we need these missing beepers.

SCRAP BOOKING

Hello Everyone,

Have you ever wanted to put those photos to good use, get organized, or just find the time to do scrap booking?

Well, now is the chance.  The second Friday of each month at 6:30 P.M. we will have the church open for those who want to come.

Bring a light snack to share, a friend and your pictures and supplies.  It is a great time of fellowship and fun.  Please RSVP so I know how many chairs to set up.!
