YEAR OF SHARING! 2010!
I would like for our congregation here at Central Christian to work on sharing more in 2010. This was a very important part of the early church and should be a very important part of our congregation.
Philemon 1:6 states: "I pray that you will actively share your faith with a real understanding of every good thing which we have in Christ."
There are some key words in this scripture I would like to address. The first work is "you." In the context, he was speaking to Philemon. I believe the "you" is also addressing us all as individuals in the Kingdom of Christ.
The second word is "actively." This is the only way to share. We must actively engage in sharing. Sharing does not get done unless we do it and participate in it. One of the first lessons we learn, or our parents try to get us to learn, is to actively share. Usually we hear that we are to share our toys. We have a tendency to do as we did as a child, to pull our toy away and be angry when someone wants to play with it. It is ours not yours. You go play with your toys. That is the way we feel until we see someone else's toy and then we want them to share it with us and they do the same thing we did with our toy. We have the greatest and most wonderful thing in the world that is ours and that is salvation through Jesus Christ. Paul is asking us to actively share the Good News with others instead of keeping it all to ourselves. Let us make it a point every opportunity we have to actively share the greatest message of all with anyone and everyone. We are sinners who have received a message of forgiveness and
salvation, and we should be very happy and
overjoyed to share that message with those who are lost just like we were lost. In sharing that message we can let all know the full and complete Word of God that brings forgiveness, joy, hope and love.
What is involved in sharing Christ is that we need to make sure we share ourselves with others. We are to do everything we can to share what we have in every aspect of our life with others. If we have it, we need to share it. It is not ours. God has given us everything in all areas of our life so that we may give them to others. The early church cared and shared. Whatever it took to help in all the different parts of life, the Christians shared with each other and those who were lost. What we have is by the grace of God and by the grace of God we should be sharing it.
May 2010 be a year of sharing the greatest blessing of all life, Jesus Christ.
That Covers it All....
On Wednesday nights, the elementary class is journaling their prayer journey with God. As a guideline, I've given them this path: T (for Thanksgiving), C (for Confession), and A (for Ask!) largely after the Disciples' Prayer from Matthew 6:
"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.'
So it's easier to grasp, I've titled this process "That Covers it All!" as an easy way to remember how the Bible describes we should approach God. This is for one simple purpose – to focus on God as a person, to respect Him, acknowledge who He is, & then get in a habit of relying on Him for help while honestly not treating Him like our vending machine. The Lord's prayer starts out "Our Father in Heaven, holy is your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." There are surely times when all we can do is cry out and lay our heart bare as we hurt desperately. But in light of Scripture our relationship with God lasts years & the bulk of our prayer should start out reflecting & being thankful for the wonderful creator & ruler God that He is. When we turn to Him and desire His will, our needs are in many ways satisfied. A proper view of God always changes things.
Here are the Scriptures that go along with our journaling:
Thanks: Psalm 136:1
Confess: 1 John 1:9, Philippians 2:11
Ask: Matthew 7:7, 1 Peter 5:7
Speaking of prayer, over 50 youth & adults will be traveling to the Tennessee Christian Teen Convention Thursday, January 7th & coming back Sunday, January 10th. Please be praying for our view of God & the illumination of our souls during this time. It will change us!
Blessings to you every day into the New Year!

Wow! What a wonderful blessing you are to the community. Thank you for the use of your beautiful building on Nov. 14th for my piano recital. My students loved the piano and everything was just perfect! I mean that!
I wanted to say an extra special thanks to Nancy Mullins for her great hospitality to me & to one of my student's parents when we came to check out the piano. She was very helpful!! Thank you to Dennis Satterfield for his working with me & getting the piano tuned. (via Nancy!)
Thank you to Bruce McShurley for his kindness & willingness to do anything he could to accommodate us; what a sweet servant he is!
Thank you to Ray & Debbie Corey for their constant support and help in cleaning & setting up. They are the backbone of ministry there.
We love you all & appreciate your opening
your facility to us. You are a church set on a hill for Jesus' light to shine thru in Columbia!
Hebrews 6:10 says. "God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown toward His people and continue to do so."

The family of Justin White acknowledges with deep appreciation your kind expression of sympathy. The flowers sent by the members of Central Christian Church were beautiful and greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Announcements
"Brothers Keeper" This is a new program to encourage more relationships in our Bible School classes. Becoming more involved with each other through our Bible School classes and make all responsible for each other. A part of this is getting our classes more involved in having new people become a part of their class. Making connections that will grow and last. Also having the classes become a group that is involved in projects together for the church and those in it and involving all class members in those projects. Dave will be coming to each class and explaining the "Brothers Keeper" program the first of January.
Ordination of Deacons during Sunday morning worship, January 3, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. We will be ordaining our newly elected Deacons.
We will resume our Family night supper and Bible study on Wednesday night, January 6, at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend this time of fellowship and study on the book of Acts.
We will be having another time of fellowship with Maury Hills Church of Christ on Sunday night, January 17, here at 6:00 p.m. Our Praise Team will be leading the music and an elder from Maury Hills will be speaking. Try to be here that Sunday night to join together in fellowship and worship.
At the end of this newsletter is a complete Bible reading schedule for the year 2010. You are encouraged to begin January 1 and read through the Bible this year. Take time each day to read, reflect, pray and consume the Word of God. As you read, have a paper and pencil with you so you can write down any questions you might have. Then you can call or e-mail Dave about your questions.
EXCITING AND INFORMATIVE CLASS TO BEGIN!
Who we are! What we are! What we believe! What we expect! These will be some of the topics Dave will be teaching and discussing for four Sunday mornings during Bible School in the Café at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to this class time beginning on Sunday morning, February 7 through 28. If you want to know more about Central Christian Church, you won't want to miss these four classes.
Remember If you added a name to the prayer list, you are to let me know weekly if you want that person to remain on the list. If you do not let me know, the name will be removed from the prayer list and then you will need to call me if you want or need that person put back on list. Thank you. Liz Satterfield
"ARISE MY LOVE" is the title of our Resurrection Cantata. Calling all singers in Junior High, High School, and Adults to be involved in this Resurrection presentation. Your voice is needed to sing to the Lord and tell of His glorious Resurrection. We hope to have 25 to 30 voices in the choir.
Rehearsals will begin on Sunday afternoon, January 31, and will be every Sunday afternoon following from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The presentation will be on Palm Sunday morning, March 28, at 11:00 a.m.
We are hoping to include some drama in this presentation. So we will be looking for those who would like to be involved in that out of our Junior High, High School, and Adults.
The red communion scarf for the communion table has been misplaced. If you have any knowledge of this please call or see Kathy Zeigler.
